Technology Preview

Today I announce a very early Technology Preview release (aka 0.3-alpha1) for the new server at v03.browsershots.org. There is some basic functionality, but many things don't work yet. For example, there are only two factories with the new XML-RPC interface, with different versions of Firefox and Konqueror on Linux. They run sporadically and only with my supervision.
A very brief overview of the changes from 0.2 to 0.3 is available in the wiki. If you want to try running a screenshot factory, get the source from the subversion repository and subscribe to the factory mailing list.
Your feedback is wildly appreciated. You can open a ticket in the new Trac, or write to one of the mailing lists.
small browsershot network

Sounds good!
I'll be trying to setup a small closed network for a few community groups here in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. We could not have done it without you. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. Thanks again!
New Look

Personally, I don't like the new look as much. I prefer the old one. Nice, clean and simple.
Nice

&s (&) ins URI's are not excaped, so the page downt display in decent browsers due to a parsing-error.

Badly formed XML
posted 2006-06-27 09:44:33 by Mark
It seems if someone submits a URL with an unescaped ampersand, the resulting XML behind the Screenshots and Queue links becomes malformed, and Firefox refuses to display it.
You need to replace & with & (in case your comment system does this, I mean replace & with &) on submitted URLs.
I like it

I do really like it. The design is still simple but much better. There are more options and the mobile view is really interesting.
I could find it easyer to find my website queue address if it appears directly once you click on "Submit jobs"
It could be interesting too a mail letting users know when their projects are completed, and an option for non making public screenshots.
Thanks for this great project and sorry for my bad english.
Digg alert.

Just to let you know, this site has been dugg on digg, and thus will probably suffer the digg effect. (i think it already is to some extent) so you might want to but up a warning to users about it. there are a lot of people trying to use it, and from what i've seen, this is causing there to be no pictures posted at all. Anyway, love the site and the idea, well done indeed. I think you need a way for people to donate so you can get some more say Powermacs (or mac pros if you can wait a month or so ;) ) or something that'll run linux. (don't worry about XP though, everyone know their site's gonna look disgusting on IE, so it doesn't need testing :P) Cya, Al. P.S: i'd donate if it's help, so i think it would be a good idea indeed.
Great Tool!

I queued a client site today and was startled to see a much older version of the web page. Those older files have been completely removed from the server, are not cached in Google, and are not found in the Way Back Machine either. The only screen shot that was up to date was the one in IE; specifically, the Flash banner at the top has been renovated: see http://browsershots.org/website/1197930/. Any ideas why the older versions? I'm non-plussed: I can't fathom where they would be coming from.
Nice, but ..

Some questions
posted 2006-07-20 18:46:00 by 3ARRANO
1. How can I translate the new site?
2. How can I find the screenshots? There's no button for that.
I prefer the old site, it was more pretty (the main page), and simple. I don't like the blue box. But anyway, this web service is awesome!

The new version doesn't seem to support subdomains... Any idea as to why?
protected against spammers

I would highly recommend putting rel=nofollow on all links posted in the queue and putting some kind of captcha on the URL submittal form.
This was one of the problems icapture faced when it was first put online, all the darn spammers would just bog it down with their urls to get inbound links.
Just discovered your service today and I have to say I am quite impressed. I hope to offer my PC's idle cpu time for IE 5/5.5 & 7.0 as soon as I read up on how to help the queue.
